Apply Now for the Eco-Stewards Vermont & Boston Program!!!

Applications are now available for the June 2-9, 2012 Eco-Stewards Program in Vermont and Boston. This program for young adults (age 20-30) will focus on Climate Change & Christian Activism in light of the recent surge in protest movements from Occupy Wall Street to Tar Sands Action to 350.org. Join the team as they meet with Occupy Boston’s spiritual leaders, visit Walden Pond to discuss Henry David Thoreau’s Civil Disobedience, help with Hurricane Irene relief projects in Vermont, talk with 350.org’s grassroots organizers and discuss individual eco-faith journeys while hiking in the Green Mountains or paddling the Connecticut River.  You can download the application here. Cooper Riis Healing Farm Animal Care-Taker

There is now a full-time volunteer opportunity at Cooper Riis!  This position would deal specifically with animal care, i.e. the animal crew.   Cooper Riis' community is seeking applicants for full-time employment (1 year); however,  summer internships are also a option!  For those of you who are unfamiliar with Cooper Riis, it is a healing community in beautiful western North Carolina where individuals with mental illness and emotional distress learn new ways to improve functioning, gain independence and attain fulfillment in life through a comprehensive program that addresses mind, body, spirit and heart.  :)  If you are interested in being a part of this fun community, contact Jen Mozolic jmozolic@warren-wilson.edu and she will hook you up with Kelsey Chandler, recent WWC graduate and current holder of this awesome position!!!

Florida Internation University Paraprofessional Summer Counseling

The Summer Treatment Program at the Center for Children and Families (CCF) at Florida International University announces summer positions for undergraduate students and recent graduates in           

Psychology, Education, Physical Education, Special Education, Counseling, Premedicine, Child Development, Social Work, and related fields. Students and recent graduates will work as paraprofessional counselors in either the Summer Treatment Program for Entering Kindergarteners (STP-K), Children's Summer Treatment Program (STP), or the Summer Treatment Program for Adolescents (STP-A).  STP-K, STP and STP-A counselors will work with children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Conduct Disorder (CD) Oppositional-Defiant Disorder (ODD), learning problems, attention problems or behavior problems. The program provides treatment tailored to children's individual behavioral and learning difficulties and serves children entering Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Davidson College academic internship
Davidson College sponsors an eight-week summer academic program for undergraduates which includes an internship at Broughton Hospital in Morganton, N.C., a state psychiatric facility serving western North Carolina. Students earn credit for one course from Davidson College as Practicum in Psychology (PSY 290) which includes working in the hospital and weekly classes, times to be arranged once the class arrives in Morganton. This course is taught by the Psychology Department Director at Broughton Hospital as an adjunct faculty member at Davidson College. For more information and application forms,click here.

StoneCreek Health and Rehabilitation Center of Asheville
Stone Creek is a facility for long-term care and medical rehabilitation.
Residents have medical conditions and many suffer from psychological disorders too.
Interns will work with residents in a supportive, therapeutic role.  Previous interns
have worked in the art room, conducted yoga sessions, or just provided support and care.

The Middleton Center
The Middleton Center is a specialized ministry of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. Established in 1999, the Center serves church and community members so that they might navigate the turning points of their lives and live more fully and effectively.  It offers a safe place for individuals of all ages to explore, question, and grow, through therapy, spiritual direction, addictions counseling, and support groups.  Everyone is welcomed and financial support is available for anyone in need.

SUWS of the Carolinas

SUWS of the Carolinas is a wilderness therapy program located outside of Asheville, near Old Fort, North Carolina. The program operates in the Pisgah National Forest. SUWS of the Carolinas has three programs: Seasons, which works with kids, ages 10-13; Phoenix, which is a substance use and abuse focused group with adolescent males ages 14-18; and SUWS which works with troubled adolescents ages 14-18. The program utilizes an outdoor setting to remove distractions, accelerating the process of understanding the issues that are driving negative behaviors. We help you create a plan and process for long-term success and encourage your child or teenager to actively participate and invest in that process, making needed behavioral changes. Internship requirements: must be 21 years of age. Previous experience with at-risk youth and outdoor leadership or education are preferred. Scottie's Place
Scottie's Place is a special needs camp for homeless children. The mission of the camp is to empower, educate and enliven homeless children through programs that emphasize wilderness adventure, pioneer living and community service. While at camp the children undergo mental and physical challenge that is essential for personal growth. The child:staff ratio is 3:1 to ensure that the children receive the attention they need to achieve their potential. Southeastern Fitness and Rehabilitation
An injury rehabilitation and physical fitness center located in Asheville. Work alongside "physical therapists and athletic trainers". A great opportunity for students interested in sports medicine, sport psychology and health psychology. (Nich Hester, 2003) Visit their website.

Summer Research Internship at the Developmental Neuropsychology Laboratory, University of Louisville
Selected students will be involved in one or several ongoing research projects that involve testing infants, children of various ages, and adults. Students will receive graduate level training in brain recording techniques. For more information on the application process and deadlines, click here.
