Warren Wilson College invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Administration and Finance, beginning on or about July 1, 2008.
The College: Warren Wilson College (www.warren-wilson.edu) is an independent liberal arts college on a beautiful 1135-acre campus in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, North Carolina. We maintain an enrollment of 800-900 students and an annual operating budget of about $26 million. As a member of the national Work College Consortium, the college offers a liberal arts education that requires all residential students to fulfill its “Triad” of work, service and academics for graduation. As well, the college has made a strong commitment to teaching international awareness and environmental responsibility. Regarding the latter, Warren Wilson received a 2006 national award for sustainability from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, as well as other environmental citations.
Position: The Vice President for Administration and Finance (VPAF) serves as chief financial officer and reports directly to President Sandy Pfeiffer, now in his second year at the college. In consultation with the president, the VPAF oversees accounting, financial planning, banking and auditing relationships, legal issues, financial aid, insurance, facilities, information technology, public safety, print shop, student services, purchasing, dining services, the bookstore, human resources, and summer conferences. The VPAF also assists the Board of Trustees and president with issues such as bond indebtedness, investments, and endowment.
Qualifications: The candidate’s background must include the following: an undergraduate degree in business, finance, or related field; a strong record of accomplishments related to the position description above; outstanding written and oral communication skills; a collaborative leadership style that includes strong team-building skills; and a commitment to the mission of the college. Preferred qualifications include a graduate degree in a related field (such as an MBA), experience working in academe, CPA designation, and experience planning and overseeing capital projects.
