Food Security

The Food Security issue area works closely with community gardens and local food banks in Asheville/Buncombe area. This focus group also works hands-on with school gardens and other projects to help promote the concepts of healthy living, create awareness about hunger and explore the vast topic of food security.

Issue Area Workshop:

Spring 2013 - Community Gardens and Empowerment

This workshop will take a comprehensive look at what empowerment looks like for communities and how community gardens and other types of gardening empower communities to have control over their food sources and where their food source comes from. During the course of this workshop students will engage in direct service with community partners as well as spend time evaluating strategies to work effectively in these communities and work to understand what empowerment is and how community gardens can strengthen and build more inclusive and empowered communities.
