Hi. My name is Tracy Bleeker and I work with all students who attend high school in California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Hawaii.
I grew up on a small farm outside of Asheville. We raised our own meat and vegetables and only heated our house with wood. Besides Asheville, I have lived in Wilmington, North Carolina; Boca Raton and Hobe Sound, Florida; Breckenridge, Colorado; Missoula, Montana; Boston, Massachusetts; Quito, Ecuador; Maesawa, Japan; and Leysin, Switzerland. In addition to working in admissions and alumni affairs at Warren Wilson College, I’ve held various jobs ranging from waitress and ski lift operator, to English teacher, to think tank organizer and a college counselor. (Check out my resume.)
Since 1999, when I was lucky enough to get a job at Warren Wilson College, I have only left twice, once to get a Masters in Education in Higher Education from Harvard University and once to work at an international boarding school in Switzerland. But each time I left Warren Wilson College and the Swannanoa Valley I simply missed this College and this community of people… and came right back home.
It seems that most alumni, former staff, and faculty feel the same. When I worked in alumni affairs and development at Warren Wilson I was able to attend Homecoming and reunion dinners and experience first-hand how our graduates are still attached to our College, to their professors and work crew supervisors, to their friends, to Riverbend and sunrise from Dogwood Pasture. Since our founding as the Asheville Farm School in 1894, this College and this community has remained one-of-a-kind, unique in higher education in America.
Really amazing students from around the country and world chose to attend Warren Wilson. They learn and grow through our unique Triad of academics, work and service. Then, they go on to become compassionate, informed citizens, who succeed in meaningful careers and dedicate themselves to lifetimes of service. Learn more about the impact of our alumni here!
