Requirements for the Theatre/English Major
The student who elects to major in Theatre/English takes courses from both the English and Theatre Departments. The Theatre/English major consists of 52 credits distributed as follows:
1. The following three 100-level courses
- THR 110 Technical Theatre I: Construction
- THR 111 Technical Theatre II: Paint and Light
- THR 100 Performance Fundamentals
2. Six credits from among the following courses:
- THR 190 Modern Dance Technique I
- THR 204 Acting I
- THR 212 Basic Design for the Theatre
- THR 314 Scene Design
- THR 315 Historic Costume Design for the Theatre
- THR 316 Lighting Design
3. Ten credits from among the following (repeatable) courses:
- THR 101-102 Performance/Production Practicum I
- THR 201-202 Performance/Production Practicum II
- THR 301-302 Performance/Production Practicum III
- THR 401-402 Performance/Production Practicum IV
4. The following five 200 and 300 level courses:
- ENG 250 Introduction to Classical Theatre
- ENG 251 Introduction to Modern Theatre
- THR 275-278 Shakespeare in Performance and Production (may be repeated for credit)
- WRI 230 Modern English Grammar
- ENG 341 Shakespeare
5. Three courses from among the following:
- MUS/THR 280 Opera as Drama
- ENG 129 Religion in Literature
- ENG 336 Literature and Culture of the Renaissance
- ENG 344 Literature and Culture of the Restoration and Queen Anne Period
