PROFESSIONAL THEATRE COMPANIES ASSOCIATED WITH WARREN WILSON THEATRE

    NORTH CAROLINA STAGE COMPANY:
We are proud to have been closely associated with the North Carolina Stage Company ever since its inception in 2001. As Asheville's premiere professional repertory theatre company, NC Stage has provided Warren Wilson Theatre students opportunities to volunteer, intern, receive professional advice, and even perform in its downtown Asheville theatre. NC Stage Artistic and Producing Directors Charlie and Angie Flynn-McIver are both adjuncts in the Theatre Department, have directed and coached Warren Wilson Theatre productions. Department of Theatre Chair Graham Paul is a member of North Carolina Stage Company's Board of Directors.

    NORTH CAROLINA SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL:
As part of our emphasis on Shakespearean production, our students have been attending productions of this major regional repertory company for many years. NCSF actors and directors have given workshops and master classes for our students, and Professor David Bradshaw of the English Department has been a scholar-in-residence with NCSF for many years.

    THEATRE OF A THOUSAND JULIETS
This new Asheville-based international touring theatre company is composed of three actor/director/playwrights who create and perform original "fusion" theatre. They have performed at the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival, have been presented twice by North Carolina Stage Company as part of its Catalyst Series, and have twice given discussion/workshops for Warren Wilson Theatre students.

    PROTO-TYPE THEATRE
Warren Wilson Theatre alum Peter Petralia is the Artistic Director of this New York experimental theatre company. In 2001, Peter directed Warren Wilson students in the premiere of one of his original plays, Cheap Thrills, which was subsequently performed in New York by Prototype. The company describes itself as a "performance company whose work incorporates circus, dance, video, orginal music, industrial lighting, and intelligent text to create unique investigations into the live moment."

    SERPENT CHILD ENSEMBLE
Jerry Pope and Rebecca Williams lead this Swannanoa-based theate company which uses storytelling techniques to create plays by and with residents of small towns and other groups as a way of celebrating community. They have given several workshops for WWTheatre students and Warren Wilson students have assisted in collecting oral histories of Black Mountain residents for their production of Way Back When.
