
Ian Robertson is Warren Wilson’s Dean of Work. Beginning as the director of the Garden Program, Ian came to Warren Wilson in 1981 and has been here since. Hailing from Great Britain, he holds a National Certificate in Agriculture from Staffordshire College of Agriculture. Ian is very well traveled, having worked with students in Kenya, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and Chile. However, his favorite place he’s ever traveled to is Hong Kong. In his spare time he enjoys playing soccer and competitive table tennis, walking his dogs, and driving around with the top down exploring the Swannanoa Valley. He also enjoys reading, his favorite book being Seven Pillars of Wisdom by T.E. Lawrence. His favorite films are the Seventh Samurai, Red Beard, and Babett’s Feast.

Karen Huntley, the Assistant Dean of Work, has been aiding Warren Wilson College for 10 years. Everyday since 2006, her dog Maggie has been coming to work in the log cabin, also. When she isn’t hard at work with the daily operations of the WPO, Karen enjoys playing with her puppies, reading, and travel. Her favorite author is Ken Follett. She has been to every state in the US, but the place she liked most upon visiting was Austria. She settled in at Warren Wilson College because she wanted to work with college age students. Her favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption.

Terry Blackwell is the Director of Occupational Safety and Training at Warren Wilson. He came here in 2009, weary of working in industry, with the intentions of bettering the campus community by insuring compliance with OSHA standards of safety. He has 30 years of experience working in safety and health, but when he is not hard at work, he enjoys playing golf, bike riding, and reading. His favorite book is Beach Music by Pat Conroy, however his favorite author is Khaled Housseini (The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns). Other than Western North Carolina, he says that the best places he’s been are the Wasatch Mountain Range in Utah and the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. His favorite movie is The Blues Brothers.

Ellen Graves, the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Work, originally came to Warren Wilson as a student. She intended to major in Outdoor Leadership, but graduated in 2006 with a BA in Psychology. When she isn’t assisting Ian or dealing with workers compensation, she enjoys baking bread and weekend traveling adventures. Somewhat of a beach aficionado, the best beaches she’s traveled to are the Ocracoke beach in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the Golden Bay in Malta. Her favorite book is The Z was Zapped by Chris vanAllsberg. Her favorite film is Wet, Hot, American Summer.
