Winter Break 2012

Winter Break is just around the corner! Now is the time to begin thinking about working on campus during the break. Read this carefully as the Work Program Office will be doing things a little bit differently.
 

 

How to Apply for Winter Break Work

Talk to a Supervisor!

Beginning today, students will communicate with the supervisor of the crew they wish to work with during break.
 

Sign up at the WPO!

All students who wish to work during Winter Break will need to sign up at Work Program Office on December 3rd and 4th. The deadline is 5:00 pm on December 4th.
 

Check your email!

On December 10th the Work Program will notify all students of their break work status via email. Students will either have be offered a position or not. The guidelines for break work eligibility are outlined in the Student Handbook.
 

Accept, Decline, or Waitlist!

Students who are awarded positions for Winter Break will need to accept or decline their position via email by 5:00 pm on December 11th. Students not awarded a position will automatically be put on the waitlist. Those waitlisted students will be notified via email regarding their break work status by 5:00 pm on Thursday, December 14th.
 

Final Notice!

All students working during break will receive a confirmation email on December 15th. Similarly, supervisors will receive their finalized list of student workers that same day via email.
 
 

Other Important Information

  • All students will be paid an hourly wage of $8.50.  Students living on campus during break will be charged the housing rate of $20.00 for the first week and $35.00 per week for all weeks thereafter.

 

  • The dining hall will be closed after breakfast on Thursday, December 20th and will reopen Friday, January 4th. Students living on campus weeks 1, 2, and 3 will have to feed themselves. Students living on campus weeks 4, and 5 will be charged for food at the following amount:

    • $65.00 for weeks 4 and 5

  • Cash advances will be available to students working and living on campus weeks 1, 2, and 3. Students may get an advance of up to $50.00 per week they are working to help pay for food expenses. Students may sign up for cash advances when they sign their Winter Break Work Agreement. TBA: the date cash advance checks will be placed in student mailboxes.

  • Break begins Wednesday, December 19th at 4:30 pm and goes until Sunday, January 20th. There will be five weeks of Winter Break work. The weeks are as follows:

    • Week 1: Wednesday, December 19th at 4:30pm – Sunday, December 23rd

    • Week 2: Monday, December 24th – Sunday, December 30th

    • Week 3: Monday, December 31st – Sunday, January 6th

    • Week 4: Monday, January 7th – Sunday, January 13th

    • Week 5: Monday, January 14th – Sunday, January 20th

  • Students do not have to work all weeks of Winter Break in order to secure a position.

  • Changes to a signed Winter Break Work Agreement may only be made with written appeal to the Dean or his designee in advance of the requested change.
