Why You Should Go to the Writing Center:
(Even if you're already a good writer)
Who We Are:
Ann Turkle is the chair of the undergraduate Writing Department and a closet Wagner fan.
Lorrie Jayne is the International Student Advisor.
Kathryn Hast
A city rat in recovery, Katie has left New York, Boston, and DC in search of the big cheese, or the best job ever for an addicted bibliophile. Teaching in the Warren Wilson Writing Department not only satiated this, it also led her to the Center, where she supervises a great crew.
Hilary Collins
In high school, I majored in creative writing and currently run Muse Collective, a writer's group. I really like birds, especially raptors and white breasted nuthatchs. At Warren Wilson, I am an Environmental Studies major with a concentration in conservation biology. I enjoy tutoring creative writing pieces, lab reports, and much more; bring in whatever you have and I'd love to read it. I'm around in the afternoons.
Sam Christopher
I was born and raised in the Texas Hill Country, where I developed a love for armadillos, superheroes, and statues of cows. My favorite font is Arial Narrow and I’m a pretty decent sailor. I want to work for Outward Bound one day. I am a double major in English and Outdoor Leadership, so I’m pretty good with any paper having to do with ODL, creative writing, the humanities, or social sciences. I made an A in Program Planning during spring of 2005, and I’ve tutored many a Program Planning student since then, so you should especially come see me if you’re working on that, not only because I have a stack of ODL books you might find helpful. I work early weekday afternoons and Wednesday nights.
Molly Wright
I came from the forest; I lived in a house made of trees. Now, in the blinding light of a populated world, I am a writing center tutor. I am an English/Creative Writing and Global Studies/Intercultural Studies major. I can help you with anything, but am especially productive when working on outlining, grammar, word choice, and personal essays. Also, as much as I love words, I really love eliminating unnecessary ones too. So, if you are prone to overwriting, come see me. My passions are cribbage (a pretentious game of counting designed for British scholars) and vacuum cleaning. I work MW in the afternoons and TTHS in the mornings. Also, if you are not a contra-dancer or Thursday night celebrator, you should come by and talk about words, or just play a game of cribbage.

I’m one of those literate Kentuckians, an English major at that. I am a pretty normal guy. I’m a sophomore who entering my second semester on the Writing Center crew. Bring your work to me! I work in the mornings and it can be outrageously boring unless I have something to read. I love the Chicago Bears and the Louisville Cardinals, so if you happen to be writing an essay on either of the two, I’m the tutor you want to talk to. If you are blanking on what to write about, come to me and we will take a walk down by the farm. I find that the wide-open spaces can be inspiring for the sufferer of writer’s block. I have taken my share of science classes and can be helpful with lab reports. Bring in your work at any stage and I will help you out. If you live on the other side of the bridge, come talk to me and perhaps we can set up an appointment over there so we don’t have to walk all the way over to Sunderland to accomplish something we can do anywhere. Writing outside is the best.
Tori Hurst
I’m a sophomore and Creative Writing major. My specialties in tutoring include thought processing/planning, clarification of content and sentence structure, words and diction. I am good with talking out ideas and being a sounding board. I am also good with listening and helping make things aurally pleasing and well structured. I am not so good with science and lab reports, but I am always willing to try to help. I am also involved with Muse Collective, the writer’s group. I usually work Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning, Wednesday afternoon and Sunday night.
John Anderson
When not studying hard at Warren Wilson College, Jack spends his time with his dog Tulip at their summer cottage in Caspiar, a small island located in the Caspian Sea. He enjoys the literary work of Bertrand Russell, John Knowles, William A. Owens, William E. Barrett, Hyemeyohsts Storm, and Kaavya Viswanathan. He is also a big fan of sensual rock.
Johanna Rotondo-McCord
Johanna hails from New Orleans and is in her second semester at Warren Wilson. Previously, she worked in the library and still gets woozy over the smell of books, especially old ones. Born under the palm tree at the edge of your mind, Johanna is ready and willing to help you with any aspect of your writing or tea brewing process. Her particular goal is to provide regional shelters for migrating commas during their fall and spring migrations. She has a long-standing relationship with a particularly strange and beautiful adjective. The verb under her bed is usually kept on a short leash, but is loosed suddenly and viciously at the first sign of a stray present progressive tense. Johanna is available on Monday nights and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
Marni Berger
After living in Mr. Roger's neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to
being kidnapped by my parents to Ohio at three weeks old, and finally
moving to the Maine coast at age 11, I feel sufficiently prepped for
working at the Writing Center. Currently, I am sophomore and a Global
Studies and Creative Writing double major. I enjoy ticking away the
literary hours by reading Stephen King, Flannery O'Connor and Annie
Proulx. A suffering idealistic, I can help you with most writing
decisions, but specialize in brainstorming topics for papers, formulating outlines and listening to Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. I'm available Tuesday nights, Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9:30 and Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 11:00. Come and sign up!
