Inclement Weather Procedure

Procedure

In the event of inclement weather, the College will enact the following procedure in order to maintain essential college functions while protecting the safety of our students, personnel, and property.

Warren Wilson College follows specific procedures to maintain essential college functions while protecting the safety of its students, faculty, staff, and property. The decision to cancel classes, adjust class schedules or close the college campus rests with the College President. The Provost and the Dean of Students will consult the best information available taking into consideration the conditions on campus, in the immediate surrounding area, in the city of Asheville and in Buncombe County. FMTS and Public Safety personnel may also be consulted.

Timing and Communication

When possible, a decision will be made the evening before a forecasted weather event. The next point of decision will be early the day in question with the goal of communicating the information at 6 a.m. A notice may also be posted if conditions deteriorate during the workday. Notice will be given via email, text alert, and local television media outlets- primarily ABC affiliate WLOS-TV 13.

Notice levels

Notice levels include delay of classes for a set period of time, classes cancelled for an entire day, or emergency closing. In most instances essential personnel will be expected to report. When possible, work crew supervisors are expected to communicate to their crew members because many work crews are able to operate in the absence of their supervisors for short periods of time. Students who don't hear from their supervisors should report to the Work Program Office for a work assignment.

Delayed Start

In the event that classes are delayed and start at 11 a.m., we will employ an abbreviated class schedule in which all classes meet for 50 minutes. Classes will follow this schedule:

Classes scheduled at 8 a.m. will meet from 11-11:50 a.m.
Classes scheduled at 9:30 a.m. will meet from 12 -12:50 p.m.
Classes scheduled at 11 a.m. will meet from 1-1:50 p.m.
Classes scheduled at 1 p.m. will meet from 2-2:50 p.m.
Classes scheduled at 2:30 p.m. will meet from 3-3:50 p.m.
