What is Neuroinclusion?

Neuroinclusion is the intentional practice of designing learning environments, programs, and campus life so students with minds of all kinds can fully participate, thrive, and be their authentic selves. It recognizes and celebrates natural human diversity in attention, communication, sensory processing, memory, and executive functioning, and is informed by the lived experiences of the students it is intended to serve.

In addition to our universal support for all students, we offer fee-based programs for added layers of support. These programs follow three tiers of intensity.

The College Compass

A pay-by-semester program offering a moderate level of support that provides a one-on-one success coach.

Features of the program include:

  • weekly meetings with a success coach to set goals, build routines, and problem solve challenges
  • guidance on self-advocacy and navigating college resources
  • support from peer tutors around executive functioning
  • access to academic strategy and writing support courses
  • parent newsletter with strategies to support your student
  • holistic advising across departments and courses
  • social events

Cost: $2000 per semester

The Learning Curve

A pay-by-semester program offering intensive auxiliary support from a learning specialist and a tailored Learning Access Plan.

Features of the program include:

  • Up to five weekly one-on-one sessions with a learning support coach and/or peer tutor, working in concert with a student’s full team of educators
  • access to academic strategy and writing support courses
  • parent newsletter with strategies to support your student
  • holistic advising across departments and courses
  • social events

Early Arrival Program

Before a student’s first semester, some will benefit from extra time to get settled and connected. Our Early Arrival Program offers the chance to move into dorms ahead of orientation and begin building a sense of community with a small cohort of peers.

Over the course of five days, students will:

  • Learn how to communicate effectively with professors (including email etiquette)
  • Set up class schedules and Google calendars
  • Tour key spaces on campus
  • Connect with work crew leaders
  • Get established with a peer tutor
  • Check in one-on-one with staff for personalized guidance
  • Engage in fun social activities to build lasting friendships with peers
  • Explore vibrant downtown Asheville
  • Enjoy a group picnic with picturesque vistas on our beautiful mountain campus

This supportive launch helps students start the semester with confidence, routines, and positive relationships already in place.

Dates for 2026: August 21-25
Cost: $500

Registration information will be shared with all admitted students in the spring.

Support Services for All Students

We offer exceptional services for learners who seek extra support. The collaboration that takes place to support every student both in and out of the classroom is what sets Warren Wilson apart as a truly transformative place where all kinds of learners can find belonging and success. All students have access to these services for no additional cost.

Academic Support & Writing Studio

Academic Counseling Drop In Appointments with a learning specialist in the Center for Academic Engagement. The Writing Studio offers individualized writing assistance via peer writing consultants.

Work Program Supervision

Every student works for a minimum of 10 hours per week under the mentorship of their crew supervisor. Supervisors meet regularly with students and form deep relationships with crew members as they work alongside them daily. Formal evaluation meetings are held by the supervisor every semester to provide the student with feedback on their professional growth, to set goals, and to help them articulate the skills they have gained.

Departmental and Program Peer Tutoring

Peer tutoring is available in the following Departments and Programs: Biology, Chemistry, Math, Spanish and English as a Second or Other Language. If a student is in a course for which tutoring is not provided, special arrangements can be made.

First Year Seminar (FYS)

This is a four credit course taken the first semester freshman year and focuses on an academic topic including service learning experiences with a community partner. The course offers a close-knit cohort of fellow new students, exposure to the college learning process, and resources for success. A student’s FYS instructor will also serve as their pre-major advisor.

College Academic Strategies Course

This one-credit term length course (seven weeks) can be taken up to four terms and id rooted in the theories and practices of “Personalized and Self-Regulated Learning.” The student meets 1:1 with their instructor weekly.

Mental Health Counseling

Counseling Services are provided free of charge to all enrolled students. The Counseling Center provides: short term individual and couples counseling; crisis intervention; assessment; referral to community providers, resources, and self-help communities.
