I spent a lot of time as a kid planting lettuce on my family’s organic farm. This also meant a lot of time to daydream. So many dreams of faraway places, helping wild animals, and the exciting adventures to be had. Maybe it was too many National Geographic Specials, growing up outside of Glacier National Park, or having adventurous siblings to look up to, but these dreams are all I ever wanted my story to be. Leaving the family farm behind, I embarked on a 15 year journey in the natural sciences, which seemed the clearest path to reaching my goals. My studies and work took me to random corners of the world, studying animals I never knew existed, where I met a number of amazing people with incredible stories of their own. Many of these scientists are dedicating their lives to studying species relatively unknown to the rest of the world. It was hearing their untold stories that helped me know what I wanted to do with the rest of mine. Documenting and communicating these stories quickly became my new passion. These days you’ll always find me with a camera, seeking stories to share with the world, and teaching my students to do the same.
Everywhere you look there's a story to be told here at Wilson. It's my job to help guide my students to see these stories and learn how to best share them with the world.
