Dr. Joe Daprano '86, is a physician from Cleveland, Ohio. During his years at Warren Wilson, he fulfilled his service requirement by working in an inner city church, St. Philip Nyeri, in his hometown of Cleveland. He worked on the Farm Crew. After graduating with a chemistry major from Warren Wilson, Joe spent two years with the Peace Corps in Papua New Guinea.
Joe returned to the U.S. to attend medical school with the goal of working with under-served populations. During medical study, he became involved with the Free Clinic of Greater Cleveland, one of the longest thriving free clinics in the U.S.
Medical school ended and Joe began a residency in Albany, New York where he met his wife, Denise Bothe. After completing their pediatrics residency program, they went to Kenya, spending two and a half months at mission hospitals.
Joe now works in an office of MetroHealth, close to St. Philip Nyeri, where he first worked while doing his Warren Wilson service requirement. Joe believes that at its best, service is a thread through the entirety of life, a thread of motivation, training, hard work, political activity, good fun and many benefits.
