Hampshire Transfer Program

If Hampshire made sense to you, Warren Wilson will too. Hampshire students don’t fit standard transfer molds — so we built one that fits you. Warren Wilson accepts narrative evaluations, maps your Divisions to our degree structure, and puts you to work on a 1,000-acre campus 15 minutes from Asheville.

Students sit under a tree in Dogwood pasture. A beautiful view of the valley is their backdrop.

Hampshire and Warren Wilson share the same conviction: learning has to be lived, not just studied. Our Work. Serve. Learn. model means every student works on campus, serves the community, and pursues rigorous academics — not as add-ons, but as the degree itself.

Your credits translate

Div I becomes gen ed. Div II/III maps to your major and capstone. Narrative evaluations accepted in place of grades.

Work that counts

70+ on-campus crews — farm, forest, blacksmith, solar, and more. Students with 60+ credits need just one semester. Work earnings apply toward tuition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Academics and the Educational Program

WWC is an experiential liberal arts & sciences college. Our work college and experiential model is a natural extension of Hampshire’s applied learning program with structured curricular pathways

Although students at Warren Wilson College complete credits and requirements toward a major, several aspects of our programming will feel familiar to students from Hampshire College.

All Warren Wilson students are expected to engage in an internship, hands-on community engaged courses, work on a campus crew, and a Senior Capstone – research, field study or creative project – for every student in every major, and other forms of experiential learning. This comprehensive approach to learning engages the mind through the heart and hands. While independent study projects supervised by faculty are available beyond the first year, they are not as central to the curriculum or as widely expected as they are at Hampshire.

Community and Location

WWC has about 700 students—60% are from out of state. 90% of students live on campus.

15 minutes outside of Asheville, NC, our 1000 acre campus includes an educational working farm and a 200-acre natural preserve.

Academics, Advising, and Credit Transfer

Hampshire credits will be reviewed individually to determine how they apply toward Warren Wilson College’s degree requirements.

  • Division I courses would count toward general education requirements at Warren Wilson – evaluated on a case-by-case basis
  • Division II/III courses, depending on declared WWC major,  would count toward major requirements and capstone.

Students will work one‑on‑one with dedicated academic advisors to create a plan for graduation.

Total credits required for graduation at Warren Wilson College:

  • Earned Credit minimum of 120

Warren Wilson College acknowledges Hampshire College’s lack of traditional grades. In assigning transfer credit for completed Hampshire courses, a member of our Registrar’s Office will review the narrative evaluations.
