Warren Wilson Athletics Announces New Website

Women's Soccer Team Ties Averett 0-0
The Warren Wilson women's soccer team (2-2-2) tied Averett University 0-0 in double overtime. The game was very evenly matched throughout as each team had chances in overtime to secure the win. Owls goalkeeper Rachel Schonberg recorded 8 saves to record the shutout. Forward Natalie Epstein was the main attacker for Warren Wilson tallying 4 shots including 3 on goal.
Owls Swim at Biltmore Lake
The Warren Wilson swimming team opened up their 2008-09 campaign with an in town race at the Biltmore Race. Earning individual championships were Kayla Meier (11:20.27) in the women's 1/2 mile open water, Brendan Burns (15:13.85) in the men's 1/2 mile open water, Amelia Hubbard (22:49.00) in the women's 1 mile open water, and Jonathon Bland (26:40.44) in the men's 1 mile open water.
Men's Soccer Team Beats LaGrange 2-1 in Overtime
The men's soccer team evened their overall record to 3-3 on the season after a 2-1 overtime victory over LaGrange College.
Owls Notch 1-1 Tie with Montreat
The Warren Wilson women's soccer team (2-2-1) notched a 1-1 tie with Montreat College. Trailing 1-0 with 8 minutes remaining in the match, junior Natalie Epstein beat the Montreat goalie to secure the 1-1 tie.
Women's Soccer Team Improves to 2-1
The Warren Wilson women's soccer team improved to 2-1 on the season after an 8-0 victory over Kentucky Christian University. The Owls jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 7th minute on a goal by Liz Wilcox. Warren Wilson took a 5-0 lead into the second half behind two goals from forward Serena Shah. For the game, the Owls were led by Wilcox's two goals and one assist. Eight different players earned points in the match for Warren Wilson as they outshot Kentucky Christian 29-3.
Bernard Named USCAA Player of the Week
Luke Bernard, a senior forward from Nelson County, VA, has been named by the United States Collegiate Athletics Association as the men' soccer player of the week. Bernard posted three goals in a 4-2 victory over Division II opponent Brevard College. He had nine total shots with five coming on goal. For the season, he has helped the Owls to a 2-1 record with four goals and two assists. Last year, Bernard was an honorable mention USCAA All-American nomination after leading the Owls in total points (23) and goals (10) while also tallying 3 assists. His 23 total points ranked him 11th in the nation.
Women's Soccer Team Earns First Win 2-1 over Toccoa Falls
The women's soccer team earned their first win of the season after a 2-1 victory at Toccoa Falls College (GA). Liz WIlcox opened up the scoring on an assist from Kelsey Chandler. Toccoa Falls responded just 9 minutes later. Sophomore Eliana Winderman (pictured left) tallied the second goal for the Owls which proved to be the game winner with just over 17 minutes remaining in the contest.
Men's Soccer Team Defeats Brevard College 4-2
The Warren Wilson College men's soccer team (2-1) defeated rival Brevard College 4-2 behind three goals from senior forward Luke Bernard (pictured left). Fellow senior Kyle Carpenter (Hendersonville, NC/Hendersonville HS) opened up the scoring 2:41 into the game on touches from Alex Babbitt and Max Bresor. Brevard tied the game 1-1 at 33:21 but the Owls quickly responded off the ensuing kick off where Sefton Dennis found Bernard just 13 seconds later. Warren Wilson took a 3-1 lead into the half and then added their fourth goal at 71:43 when Carpenter found the head of Bernard off a corner kick.
Soccer Teams Split with Division II Chowan
The Owls men's soccer team captured a 3-0 victory while the women suffered a 3-0 defeat against Division II Chowan University. Junior Max Bressor opened up the scoring in the 22nd minute on a pass from senior Luke Bernard. The duo hooked up again early in the second half (58:59) and Bernard followed that up with a goal of his own in the 87th minute. Goalkeeper Stephen Cavallo recorded 6 saves for the shutout.
Soccer Teams Open Up Versus Chowan University
The men's and women's soccer teams kick off the 2008 season with home contests versus Chowan University. The women open things up at 3:00 pm while the men start at 5:00 pm.

2008-09 Athletic Schedule Cards Released
The Warren Wilson College athletic department has released their annual athletic schedule cards. The owls kick off the 2008-09 season with a men's soccer match at Emmanuel College on August 26.

Athletic Department Finishes 10th in Director's Cup
The Warren Wilson College athletic department finished in 10th place (195 points) in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Director Cup Standings. The Director's Cup is an award presented to the top performing institutions at USCAA Championship events. Southern Virginia University captured the title with 451 total points. FULL STORY
