Students may wish to explore possibilities offered through other U.S.-accredited study abroad programs following procedures outlined in the International Programs external program policy. This option requires a great deal of responsibility and initiative from students, but it opens up many opportunities as well. Please speak to International Programs staff for more information about this possiblity. Students who choose this external program option should be aware that federal, state, and Warren Wilson financial aid will most likely not be applicable while the student is on a leave of absence. Students should contact the financial aid office for more details.

Greeceoctopus Students who apply for study abroad, whether through Warren Wilson or as part of an external program, work closely with academic advisors and the Office of the Registrar to insure the smooth transition of transfer credit. We recommend that students begin preparing for study abroad at least one year in advance. Warren Wilson professors and International Programs staff are available to counsel on the opportunities that are available each year as well as what programs might work best for specific interests and major areas of study. The International Programs Office may offer partial financial reimbursement for a qualified student's external study abroad upon his or her return to Warren Wilson College and successful transfer of program credits.

Students interested in external study abroad are encouraged to consider the programs offered by the Council on International Education Exchange (CIEE) and the School for International Training (SIT). These well-respected institutions offer study abroad programs in a wide variety of disciplines around the globe. Warren Wilson College has an agreement with SIT that allows a limited number of students to retain their state and federal financial aid with participating in SIT programs.
