Overview

Over the years, the International Programs Office has sponsored semester and year-length study abroad programs and WWC faculty-led short-term study abroad courses in different venues around the globe representing various academic disciplines. While it is often the case that short-term study abroad courses are repeated in subsequent years, the focus of each course always depends on faculty leadership and student interest.

Each spring the International Progams Office announces short-term study abroad courses that have been proposed for the following academic year. Junior-level students may select their preferences and register on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students must also be qualified in terms of credit hours and specified course prerequisites. All Warren Wilson study abroad programs require payment of a $75 application fee and have an associated program fee that typically ranges from $200 to $2000, depending on travel costs and other factors. Academic credits and subjects vary. Transfer students and space-available participants should note additional charges.

Short-term study abroad courses include at least eight weeks of coursework, class meetings and orientation sessions on campus prior to departure for the off-campus sites. Travel may last an entire term (eight weeks), but most study abroad courses are designed to fit into students' summer or winter break schedules with a shorter travel segment of two to three weeks. Students are required to return to campus the semester following travel to complete projects, reflect on their experiences, and share their observations and stories with the community.

The International Programs Office also offers a number of more selective semester or year-length study abroad opportunities. This challenging and exciting option provides more intense cross-cultural learning and immersion.
