Today we celebrate a first: Jamie Ager, WWC Class of 2000, has been elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, North Carolina 11th Congressional District!

Since our founding in 1894 the College has written an admirable history of contributions to our region, our country, and the world. Jamie’s election marks a milestone in our collective arc of service: the first time, and I predict not the last, that one of our graduates will hold congressional office. Jamie met his wife, Amy Ager ’00, at WWC, and together they founded Hickory Nut Gap Farm in Fairview, NC. His path reflects the entrepreneurship, engagement and advocacy our students bring to lives of purpose and impact.

Yesterday’s election was hard fought—no doubt about that. The time is now to forge collaboration across differences, like we are fostering through our Democracy in Action initiative, and recommit to civic engagement across political divides, so that together we steward the nation we aspire to live in and the planet we will leave behind for future generations. Jamie is well positioned to do that. He embodies our mission of learning, working and serving for a greater good.

At Warren Wilson College we are committed to education in action, the best way to usher in a better world for all. Jamie is a product of that commitment. We are proud of him, inspired by his example, and optimistic about what he will accomplish in the nation’s capital.
