My Story
Norman is a first-generation college graduate who believes in the transformative power of higher education and the civic role of colleges and universities. What brought him to Warren Wilson is a truly special community committed to living authentically by putting learning and values into action, guided by a compelling vision of a Progressive Promise for All. Prior to joining Warren Wilson as Provost, Brian served in senior roles at several other mission-driven institutions: Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH, Simmons University in Boston, and Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore. As a teacher and scholar, Brian has published a number of books, articles, and essays on the relationship between American literature and social change. He holds a Ph.D. in English from Rutgers University and earned his Bachelors Degree in Environmental Studies, French, and Women’s Studies from Pacific Lutheran University, where he also had the opportunity to study in Cuba and Cameroon.
Brian NormanWarren Wilson is a community that rolls up its sleeves and puts ideas into action. Each day, we get to introduce the next generation to the joys and challenges of asking big questions of ourselves and the world--and then do something about it. That is how the future is born, each day.
