My Story

I am a poetic archaeologist at heart. I peel back layers to search for creative voices that have been diminished or omitted. Reading memoirs, biographies, and archival materials successfully linked me to the courageous activism of writers/poets like Afeni Shakur, Layli Soldier, Lydia Child, and Sor Juana Del La Cruz. My research interests include Black Geographies and the Politics of Place, American Sign Language Literature, and Documentary Poetics. The texts that I am currently reading are Jasmine Guy’s ‘Afeni Shakur: Evolution of a Revolutionary’ and Christina Sharpe’s ‘Ordinary Notes.’
