My Story
Appalachia holds a special place in my heart, particularly the mountains of North Carolina. I feel most alive and present when experiencing the natural world, be it birdwatching, finding wildflowers, or sitting in a river with a good book. Only a few literary tomes have been casualties of my adventures with them! Getting lost in a text, learning new things about the world and my place within it, is what drew me to librarianship. A librarian is a collaborator and facilitator of the meaning-making process. My aim is to help all learners cultivate agency and confidence in considering the nature of information: the societal, political, personal, and emotional influences of the sources we interact with. The library plays a vital role in contemporary society, both as a physical gathering place and an intellectual underpinning of creative discovery.
